Jacquie Dale is the Founder and a Partner of One World Inc. She has more than 25 years of experience in public engagement, project management, research, organizational development, evaluation, community development, and facilitation, both in Canada and internationally. A Canadian pioneer in the use of Deliberative Dialogue, she has won major awards for her work in public engagement. She loves the challenge of designing and facilitating complex consultation and dialogue initiatives.

A Certified Management Consultant, Jacquie holds Master’s Degrees in Management and Environmental Psychology. Bilingual, she has considerable experience working with clients to deliver productive and engaging processes within tight time frames. She has extensive experience in the health field and a solid working knowledge of health care and public health in Canada. Prior to becoming a consultant, Jacquie worked for over 20 years in the non profit sector.

Partner

Sue Cass, Partner of One World Inc. has worked for close to 30 years as an educator, process facilitator, mediator, training specialist and in organizational capacity building – mainly in the not-for-profit, NGO and government sectors in Canada and internationally. Her professional and personal life has been enriched through living and working in a wide diversity of contexts. Her clients have ranged from citizen groups and cultural communities, to frontline workers, to senior government officials. Her particular areas of interest and professional activity include: the design, facilitation, and evaluation of high-quality dialogue, consultation, and stakeholder engagement processes, organizational learning and change; reflective practice, intercultural effectiveness and diversity training.

Sue is bilingual and holds a MA in Adult Education and a BSc in Anthropology and Comparative Development Studies. She also holds certification in Alternative Dispute Resolution, Deliberative Dialogue, Stakeholder Engagement, Behaviour-Based Interviewing for Intercultural Effectiveness, Social Analysis Systems and Essential Skills in Evaluation.

Partner

Sibyl Frei has more than a dozen years of consulting experience, working with diverse leaders and stakeholders in the non-profit and public sectors, particularly in the cultural and health sectors. Her strengths include project management, change management, research, facilitation process design and delivery, and strategic, business and operational planning. Sibyl enjoys collaborating with organizations to make progress on their unique priorities, engaging stakeholders and using tailored processes to accomplish project objectives.

Sibyl brings five years of experience in public sector community economic development, 11 years in book publishing and a life-long commitment to volunteering and skills sharing to her work. She holds a Masters in Adult Education and a B.Sc. in Physical Science, and is a Certified Professional Facilitator (International Association of Facilitators) and a Certified Management Consultant (CMC-Canada).

Partner

Ken has more than 20 years of experience in a number of areas: management, organizational development, planning, facilitation and writing. His work is rooted in a community development/capacity building approach. A special area of interest is organizational learning – specifically, helping organizations to translate their experience into usable knowledge.

His positions and assignments include experience at the local, provincial, national and international levels. He has worked with organizations as diverse as community health centres, regional health authorities, public health organizations, community economic development organizations, provincial/national NGOs, and governments.

Ken is trilingual (English, French, Spanish) and holds a Masters in Health Sciences (Health Administration), a graduate diploma in Community Economic Development, as well as a B. Sc. in Biology.

Office Manager

Colleen is an invaluable asset to the One World team, offering clients and associates a direct point of contact for all things financial and administrative. Her over 30 years experience in the field of office management, administration, contract negotiation and bookkeeping, combined with her exceptional organizational skills and efficiency greatly enhance One World’s capacity to offer clients high quality, uninterrupted service.

Additionally, Colleen Baart provides extensive project level support to our consultation projects, and is responsible for logistics planning and administration for projects as required. She also plays a key role in proposal development, quality assurance, document formatting and quality control, and strategic business development.

Senior Associate

Since 1989 Beth Allan has been involved in health, education and social services restructuring and planning initiatives at the local, provincial and national level. She also designs consultation processes and provides facilitation services for a wide variety of organizations.

Recent activities include the planning and facilitation of national consultations for such organizations as the International Development Research Centre (IDRC), Planned Parenthood Federation of Canada; VON Canada; and Health Canada. In Ontario, Beth Allan was facilitation advisor to the Chair and facilitators of the Ontario Citizens Assembly on Electoral Reform and she also facilitated the Expert Policy Forum on the Funding of Developmental Services for Ontario. Locally she has designed and facilitated stakeholder consultations for organizations such as United Way Ottawa, the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario, The Champlain Local Integrated Health Network (LIHN) and the City of Ottawa.

Beth Allan has participated in facilitating and designing many deliberative dialogues with citizens including the Ontario Government Citizen’s Dialogue on the Ontario Budget; the National Youth Dialogue and Summit; and the National Citizen’s Dialogue on Privacy and Health Care.

Associate

Lynn is a highly skilled researcher, communicator, project planner and administrator. Through her work in the health field at the local and national level she has worked on many collaborative processes involving academic research, multi-sectoral consultation, network development and consensus-building.

Lynn has over 15 years experience in health planning, project development and coordination, applied research, knowledge exchange and community/network development. She has experience working with the voluntary sector as well as government. She speaks English and has advanced French language skills (functional written and oral comprehension/expression). She holds a Master’s Degree in Health Administration (University of Ottawa) and a Bachelor of Science Degree, Honours, Life Science (Queen’s University).

Senior Associate

Neil is a seasoned, experienced professional with a thirty-five year progressive career in the Federal Government. Recently retired, he is an executive who has repeatedly demonstrated leadership, change management expertise and organizational efficiency within complex organizations.

His most recent position was Director General, Regional Operations & Commpliance Labour Program, Human Resources & Social Development Canada (HRSDC). During his time at HRSDC he was responsible for the Labour Standards Review and Workplace Equity.

Neil is highly skilled at forming strategic partnerships with diverse groups representing business, labour and community based organizations. He is a results oriented senior executive able to find practical solutions to complex challenges while exhibiting a high tolerance for ambiguous situations. Some of Neil’s experience includes executive leadership of national regulatory programs delivered through regionally based operations ensuring effective and efficient alignment of resources and policies; the direction of complex policy development; the provision of strategic, organizational and logistical support to the Commissioner of the Federal Labour Standards Review (Part III); the Chairing of post-report consultation meetings with stakeholders; mediation between groups representing labour, business and community based organizations; the negotiation of sectoral based pilot projects to improve compliance with Part III of the Canada Labour Code.

Neil received a Masters in Public Administration in 1990 at Queen’s University, Kingston, ON and a BA Honours in 1976 at the University of Regina, SK.

Neil is the recipient of ‘Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal’ for service to Canada, and is a fluent communicator in English and French.

Associate – Writer

Bonnie is a talented writer, editor and marketing consultant, with extensive experience writing for all media, for a range of government departments as well as public and private sector clients.

A former teacher and marketing director, she brings to each assignment a unique understanding of communications strategy. She is an award-winning copywriter and has written speeches for several federal and provincial ministers. A particular area of expertise is in health promotion. She is one of two writers responsible for It’s Your Health, Health Canada’s premier consumer publication.

Bonnie also leads workshops in Plain Language and is the author of two books of fiction and two plays. She holds an Honours BA in English.

Senior Associate

Christine has ten years of providing effective, skilled and sensitive leadership for public and private workplaces, nonprofit and community groups in conflict resolution, meeting planning and facilitation , strategic planning, program evaluation, community building, communication and conflict management training. She has a lively group leadership style and ability to simplify and communicate concepts clearly; strong listening skills and ability to connect with people to guide them in collaborative processes; and a special interest in cross-cultural communications.

Christine draws from her legal training, mediation practice, experience working for and within nonprofit organizations and a life-time of seeking to improve her own communication, to offer conflict management training that is specially geared toward workplaces. She has studied with “Nonviolent Communication” founder, Dr. Marshall Rosenberg, and uses his methodology in this training. She also draws from Stephen Covey (The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People) and the work of other organizational and communications leaders.

Senior Associate

Maurice has extensive experience in consultation and facilitation with all levels of government, as well as the private and public sectors. A former senior executive in the Ontario Public Service, he works in both official languages.

Maurice’s expertise includes high-level policy analysis, report-writing and facilitation for a wide range of clients, including federal government and Ontario provincial government departments, in the areas of agriculture, education, health, heritage, human resources, public works, training and tourism.

His experience contributed to One World being offered two supply arrangements with Public Works and Government Services Canada, which pre-qualify him and the firm for work with federal government vendors.

Maurice holds degrees in Arts, in Mathematics and Computer Science, and in Education.

Jennifer Shepherd is an experienced and certified professional facilitator and graphic recorder with over fifteen years of experience helping not-for-profit, for profit, and public sector organizations to thrive. She leads organizations on a journey of discovery and learning, enabling people to notice what’s possible, to focus intentions and actions on what matters, to improve the quality of relationships, and to make meaningful connections that foster learning and excellence for the common good.

Approaching her work from a whole-systems perspective, Jennifer inspires organizations to tap into the collective wisdom and strengths of their people and partners and to use powerful questions as reflective and imaginative tools to bring about informed and inspired action. Her areas of expertise include: organizational development, process design and planning, facilitation, appreciative inquiry, graphic recording, knowledge translation and exchange, and conversational leadership practices and technologies.

Stepping into the facilitative role of Graphic Recorder, Jennifer enables people to literally see what they mean and put their ideas to work. As speakers and participants present information and engage in conversation with one another, Jennifer creates conceptual maps of words and images that connect ideas and boost participants’ capacity to process information. The visually engaging process and product help people to: think clearly, retain knowledge, stimulate creativity, deepen their reflective practice, learn, and make better decisions.

Jennifer holds a Master of Arts in Human Systems Intervention from Concordia University. She is a Certified Association Executive (CAE) and earned the Certified Professional Facilitator designation from the International Association of Facilitators.

Senior Associate

Currently based out of Vancouver, Harold Tarbell is a member of the Mohawk Nation at Akwesasne, a First Nation community located in Ontario, Quebec and New York State. Harold’s work experience has included serving as the Tribal Chief (1987-1990) on the US portion of Akwesasne, Multicultural coordinator for the North American Indian Traveling College, Land Claims researcher for the Union of Ontario Indians, Parliamentary Liaison with the Assembly of First Nations, Director of the National Aboriginal Management Board, Executive Director of Buffy Sainte Marie’s Cradleboard Teaching Project, and Chief of Staff to National Chief Ovide Mercredi during the Charlottetown Constitutional Negotiations.

As a Senior Partner in the Aboriginal consulting firm of Gaspe Tarbell Associates, formed in 1992, Mr. Tarbell has provided group facilitation and training services in strategic planning, team building, conflict resolution, board development, youth programming, policy development and consultation for a wide variety of Aboriginal, corporate, and government organizations.

Senior Associate

Guy brings over 25 years of varied and relevant facilitation and consultation experience to any learning and consulting context. His background in psychology, sociology, and alternative dispute resolution and relationship awareness has allowed him to offer a wide array of services to organizations and communities. His fields of expertise are facilitation, planning, needs assessment, program evaluation, strategic planning, project coordination, community development, change and transition management, mediation and negotiation. Guy is also the founder, director and senior planner of Eksento Consulting.

Over the years, he has developed an expertise in supporting and guiding organizational strategic plans, and his insightful facilitation skills have also assisted organizations, networks and community service groups to foster team building, implement system and policy changes, create consensus and endorse cross-sectoral service protocols. He works to maximize knowledge acquisition through dynamic and ongoing interaction with a view to help individuals increase their skills base and create a better workplace.

Guy holds a BA in psychology and a MA in sociology, and is fluently bilingual.

Associate

For close to 30 years, Miriam has specialized in public consultation and facilitation, involving people and communities on issues that can affect their lives and contribute to enhanced democracy.

An active member of several deliberative democracy organizations, she has worked at local, national and international levels. She co-chaired the 2005 and 2007 Canadian conferences on Dialogue and Deliberation, and she co-founded and co-chairs the Canadian Community for Dialogue and Deliberation. As well, she has worked on several projects promoting deliberative approaches for the Province of Ontario and the City of Toronto.

Miriam has co-authored a strategy for pandemic planning, preparedness and response here in Canada and is also an advisor to the U.S. Working Group on Citizen Engagement in Health Emergency Planning.

She holds a Master’s Degree in Environmental Education.

Senior Associate

Charlotte specializes in evaluation and project-based work in organizational effectiveness and policy improvement. She has worked for over 25 years to promote sound decision-making through public involvement and by working to improve how governments and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) operate. Her vast experience in natural resources and environmental issues has included work on challenging issues ranging from nuclear waste disposal to urban pest management to bio-solids management.

Participatory processes have been at the heart of her work. She has facilitated well over 4000 hours of multi-party processes. Participants in these processes have included community and business groups, government agencies, members of professional societies, and researchers. Charlotte also has extensive experience designing and conducting applied evaluation research and developing innovative public consultation programs, some of which are used as models in the US government for working with multiple stakeholders in environmental assessment.

In addition to being a One World associate, she is founder and Director of Practice of ENVision…synergy, a Toronto based consulting firm. She is the holder of a Phd. in environmental psychology from the University of Michigan, and a Masters of Science in Natural Resources Communications.
