We designed and conducted an evaluation of a national multi-faceted public engagement project on a key pandemic preparedness issue.

The country-wide engagement project consisted of seven citizen dialogues, two stakeholder dialogues and two target group dialogues. Data was gathered throughout the course of the project and at its completion, so that both formative and summative evaluation issues could be addressed.

The project scope included:

• Development of an evaluation framework
• Design and use of data collection tools, including pre- and post- session questionnaires, interviews, focus groups and surveys
• Analysis of findings
• A learning circle with the internal PHAC team
• Analysis and final report

Client: Canadian Public Health Association

We designed and conducted an evaluation of a tool to help regions integrate chronic disease management and primary care.

The project scope included:

• Focus groups and interviews with health professionals, government, and NGOs, in four locations across the country
• Compilation and analysis of the data and preparation of the final report, which we presented to the National Advisory Committee

Client: Halifax Regional Municipality

Using a case study methodology, we conducted an evaluation of public engagement projects conducted by the Halifax Regional Municipality over the last 10 years.

The project scope included:

• Determination of selection criteria for the case studies
• Development of an evaluation framework and data collection tools
• Implementation of focus groups and interviews
• A document review
• Analysis of data
• Preparation of a final report

Client: Ontario Healthy Communities Coalition

The evaluation of the Healthy Communities and the Built Environment involved a review of a series of regional public forums and community workshops, a post-process collective evaluation with Steering Committee members (including Ontario Healthy Communities Coalition (OHCC) staff) and an evaluation by the community-based organizers of the workshops and forums.

• Ten community workshops
• Post-process collective evaluation
• Evaluation by the community-based organizers of the workshops and forums

Client: Health Nexus (previously Ontario Prevention Clearinghouse)

One World conducted an evaluation of the engagement project: Priming Action on the Social Determinants of Health. Priming Action is Phase II of an initiative to begin a dialogue on the relationship between chronic disease and the social determinants of health and to share what is being learnt, in order to support action to prevent chronic disease.

The project scope included:

• Development of an evaluation framework
• Development of questionnaires for workshop participants
• Use of online surveys
• Delivery of post-workshop focus groups
• Ongoing dialogue with staff to reflect on overall project learnings

Client: Health Canada and Canadian Institutes of Health Research

Designed and implemented an evaluation of a national consultation process, as a pilot of a new evaluation framework developed by the Consultation Secretariat at Health Canada.

The project scope included:

• Document review
• Individual interviews and group sessions.
• Writing of a final report that included recommendations for the evaluation framework itself
• Building recommendations for revising the framework

Client: Canadian Institutes of Health Research

Designed and implemented an evaluation of a stakeholder and citizen consultation process to assist CIHR in developing privacy best practice guidelines in the design, conduct and evaluation of health research.

The project scope included:

• Development of an evaluation framework
• Design and administering of the data collection tools
• Analysis and preparation of the evaluation report

Client: Office of Critical Infrastructure Protection and Emergency Preparedness, Federal Government.

Designed and conducted an evaluation of a country-wide consultation process.

The project scope included:

• Compilation and analysis of completed participant evaluation forms
• Stakeholder selection process for 30 stakeholders
• Subsequent interviews with 30 participants

Client: Canadian Council for International Cooperation

Developed and supervised the implementation of an evaluation strategy for nationwide outreach and deliberative dialogue processes on global issues. This included systemizing data collection tools for both quantitative and qualitative data.
